The Perryopolis Area Heritage Society went all out to make the 2004 Pioneer Days Festival a success. The parade was bigger and better than ever, good weather drew big crowds, and there was plenty to see and do and eat at Sampey Park and the adjoining George Washington Grist Mill and other historic sites. If you missed this year’s Pioneer Days, mark your calendar right now for the first weekend in October, 2005.

Pioneer Days, a time for reunions:
Two photos below through the kindness of Jeff Griglak.
A Distinguished Group
Retired Band Director Laddie Griglak, left, says hello to his brother-in-law, Thomas J. Kalman. Mr. Kalman served the Perryopolis area well as a State Senator from 1957 - 1971. Both men served the country with distinction in the Navy during World War II. Looking on in the background is Kate Griglak, wife of Laddie and sister of Senator Kalman. Kate Kalman Griglak is also a distinguished retired teacher.

The Perry VFW Honor Guard Led the Way
And there were those who remember and honor American soldiers of a different era.
George and Martha Washington arrived in a wagon drawn by a Judy and King, two magnificent Registered Belgians from Sunshine Acres in McClellandtown, Pa. Sunshine Acres is operated by Tony Myers and family. Contact Sunshine acres at 723-438-2433 to arrange rides for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or any other special occasion.
Susan Nesti also traveled in style!
There was a colorful (to put it mildly) new addition to this year’s Pioneer Days parade—the recently established Perry Purple Passion, an official chapter of the Red Hat Society. At left, l-r, are Ruth Shields, Beverly Iulius, and Susan Nesti at the Red Hat Bake Sale that was held on Saturday. Above: Ann Kirchner and her daughter Christal Masney preceded the Perry Purple Passion float with the chapter’s banner.
Left: Perry Purple Passion Chapter Queen Connie Fuller. Above: The Float. The signs, appropriately enough, read “Fun” and “Friends.”
