If you send us an e-mail we
will not divulge the content of your message or your e-mail address
to anyone unless you instruct us to do so. Information that you post
on the Grist
Mill Bulletin Board may be read by anyone (indeed, that’s
the purpose of a Bulletin Board!), and all posts must include a name
and a valid e-mail address. You must publicly disclose your e-mail
address if you wish to participate in the Classmates
page.
Perryopolis.com employs a visitor counter (from Bravenet.com) that may place
a cookie on your computer. The purpose of this cookie is to ensure that you are
counted only once if you should visit the site multiple times per day. This avoids
inflated statistics. The cookie also gathers certain information about your computer
and the software that you are using. The webmaster periodically examines the
statistics provided to him by Bravenet.com. The Webmaster
cannot identify you individually from these statistics. I can,
however, derive information about your computer and—sometimes—what
city you live in.
I can tell which operating system and which web browsers visitors are using,
and I use this information to ensure that the site will be displayed properly
on the widest possible variety of computer hardware and software. I can also
identify the IP address from which you visit (which has a format such as 192.168.1.100,
and is the real address
that underlies a web or e-mail address such as johndoe@johndoe.net), and this
information can lead me to learn the name of your Internet Service Provider,
and, in some cases, the state or city from which you are visiting. This is as
far as the report takes me; there is no way that I can learn your name, home
address, e-mail address, or other personal information about you from the statistics
that I see. To the best of my knowledge, the information above applies to all
web sites, though some sites may use special software to collect extra information
about visitors.
In short, we’re just glad
that you’re visiting, whoever you are, and we won’t know
who you are unless you tell us.
